JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Ocean Procurement Manager will be responsible for activities relating to preparing pricing for both existing and potential business opportunities for the organization. This position requires proficient knowledge of Excel including Pivot Tables, knowledge of FMC rules and regulations and experience negotiating ocean procurement with carriers. Individual should understand ocean transport market and be able to analyze pricing to predict future trends.

Job Duties

Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Respond and support for RFQ's, RFP's and RFI's as needed and in a timely manner
  • Understand market and industry trends for overall price effectiveness
  • Provide Pricing for both existing and potential business opportunities for the organization
  • Create and manage Import and Export Pricing Matrix
  • Develop effective business proposals and bid packages
  • Ad hoc reporting and analysis pertaining to customer revenue, profit margins and service
  • Negotiate ocean carrier contracts with steamship lines on a yearly and as needed basis
  • Analyze existing customer trends to better optimize procurement
  • Other duties as assigned that support the sales, billing, claims management, and pricing teams

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines while overseeing project management
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Strong knowledge of tariffs, rates, accessorial pricing, class and commodities
  • Dynamic team player with the ability to serve internal and external customers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to relate to and build relationships with people at all levels of an organization
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and develop alternative solutions
  • Ability to work independently and with off-site team members, as well as with all levels of management

Additional Qualifications, Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, Logistics, Transportation, International Business, Supply Chain or equivalent industry experience in transportation or logistics industry
  • Three – five years’ experience in transportation, international logistics, or international business
  • Knowledge of FMC rules and regulations
  • Previous tariff, rates, accessorial pricing, class and commodities experience
